About

A list of companies is not a market strategy.

Cernio came out of a simple frustration: names are easy to come by, and working out which of them make sense for one particular product in one particular market is the part that eats the week.

Why Cernio exists

The need came first. The product came after.

Opening a market usually starts with a dozen browser tabs: directories, a spreadsheet, company websites, and a long afternoon of ruling people out. Most tools are good at collecting names and no help at all with the ruling out.

Cernio didn't begin as a product idea; it was written to answer a specific export question, then opened up over time for other people to use. The partners who distribute it joined from the other side of the same trade — the trade-fair and exporter-association side.

The approach hasn't changed since: the product and the way it reaches a buyer come first, and the companies follow from that. The reason a company came up stays attached to it, which is what makes the work still useful a month later.

Product principles

What guides the product.

01

Context before volume

A longer list is not a better answer.

02

Reasoning over black-box results

If you can't check the reasoning, you can't trust the result.

03

Software for real workflows

The work continues after the first result. So should the tool.

04

User judgement matters

Cernio narrows the field. It doesn't pretend to know your market better than you do.

Who is behind it

Two halves of the same trade.

Cernio brings together export and trade-fair experience: the product is designed by exporters, and our commercial partners distribute it through exhibitions and exporter-association programmes. Neither side is an outside vendor; they are the partners in the company.

Exporters

The people designing the product have spent more than a decade selling B2B goods into other countries — quoting, shipping, chasing the wrong distributor and finding the right one. The parts of Cernio that feel opinionated are opinions earned that way.

Trade-fair organisers

Our commercial partners run exhibitions and exporter-association programmes across several continents. They spend the year in the same halls as the companies Cernio is for, and they are the first to tell us when something doesn't hold up out there.

What it buys you

A product shaped by the work rather than by a workshop. Before a change reaches you it has usually been argued about by somebody who would have to use it on a real customer.

Let your next market start with the right question, not a list.

Start with the product. Cernio works out where it fits, who should be selling it, and which companies are worth your time.
